10 Tips for Winterizing Your Volkswagen

You will notice that winter preparation maintenance includes essential performance components that need to be at their best in sub-zero temperatures. Most of these components need to be at their best in winter and susceptible to seasonal temperature change. Be sure that your vehicle’s winter maintenance plan includes these components:

1. Windshield Wiper Blades – You will need peak windshield clearing capacity in winter’s snow and ice. Be sure to inspect wiper blades and replace them if they are damaged or more than a year old.
2. Tires – Your driving safety will benefit from the right tires with sufficient traction. Be sure to get a tire inspection, including tread depth measurement. It might be a good decision to get your tires replaced now with a seasonal tread.
3. Lights – Lights are always needed to function correctly, but the safety stakes increase in winter’s adverse weather. Be sure to inspect all lights and signals to verify that they are working properly.
4. Winter Blend Windshield Wiper Fluid – Winter blend wiper fluid is designed for snow and ice. It could be a good idea to switch from regular to a winter blend wiper fluid for optimal performance.
5. Dashboard Warning Lights – This is recommended maintenance in all conditions, but be sure to address any dashboard warning lights to fully prepare your vehicle for reliable winter driving.
6. Coolant Fluid/Antifreeze – This vital fluid not only keeps the engine cool but prevents the engine from freezing and getting damaged. Good coolant/antifreeze is needed in all conditions, but the stakes are higher in winter.
7. Brakes – With slippery conditions ahead, be sure to inspect the braking system and provide any maintenance needed for peak braking and safety on slippery roads.
8. Roadside Assistance Kit – We recommend having a safety kit all year, but now is the time to get one if you don’t.
